AMD's Redwood GPU Scheduled for Early 2010 Release

While chip maker AMD might still be faced with the recurring TSMC problems with the 40nm manufacturing process, it is currently expected to further expand its Radeon line of graphics cards, with the introduction of several new cards, aimed at the mainstream and value segments. According to the latest details that have surfaced the Internet, the Sunnyvale, California-based chip maker is scheduled to introduce a new GPU in Q1 2010, codenamed Redwood and aimed at the mainstream and low-end market segments.

 

The codenames for AMD's line of Radeon GPUs have been previously leaked on the Internet, but it now appears that we also have a time schedule for the release of the upcoming cards. According to a recent article on Fudzilla, the Redwood GPU, which will be out in two variants, the XT and Pro versions, is scheduled to arrive in the first quarter of the upcoming year. The updated GPU will be part of the company's growing line of Radeon HD 5000-series of graphics-processing units and will eventually replace the current Radeon HD 4770 and HD 4670 cards.
